Free Videos About Depression and Anxiety

Labels: , , , ,

National Anxiety and Depression week is over. This event is sponsored every year by Freedom From Fear, which has advocated for the mentally ill for 25 years.

Freedom From Fear was kind enough to send me a free kit to help me spread the word about clinical depression and anxiety disorders. The kit includes two DVDs:

"The Pain of Depression: A Journey through the Darkness"

"Stories of Hope and Courage" (about anxiety disorders)

I am giving these DVDs away FREE to my readers! I have seen "Pain of Depression" when it aired on PBS, but I haven't seen "Stories of Hope and Courage."

Here's how it works:

Leave a comment to this post. Share a story about how mental illness has affected your life or family, or just say hi. If you prefer one or the other DVD, make a note of that and I will try to accomodate you if you win. Make sure you include your e-mail address with your comment or leave a link to a page where I can find it. The deadline is Sunday, May 17th, at midnight CDT. One entry per person!

I will number the comments in the order they appear on the page, then use a random number generator to pick two winners, one for each DVD.

Good luck! I hope to hear from you.

Mental illness has affected many members of my family. My father's severe depression and alcoholism seemed to go hand-in-hand. Although he had good treatment (psycho-therapy, anti-depressants, even hospitalization), he was never a happy person and the last ten years of his life were bathed in gloom, despite his doctors.

My brother and my bother's son seem to have inherited my father's tendency toward depression; my brother, who died at 62) was also an alcoholic; his son drinks too much and has been unable to work for the past five years because of his depression. With no income, his depression is untreated.

I have been affected by anxiety attacks, and am commonly called a "worry-wart," a name which is descriptive.

My husband's family has had a number of members who were bi-polar. Two of his cousins (one of whom committed suicide at 16), two nephews, an aunt were all affected. My husband suffers from depression, which is being treated, though he has many "down" days.

Luckily, our children seem to be well-adjusted, but we have two grandchildren and one great-grandchild who are bi-polar.

As a result, we are very interested in all the information we can get about mental illness and how it seems to run in families. I read everything I can get my hands on about depression and anxiety and bi-polar problems so that I can understand what our extended family faces every day.

Thanks for your posts on mental illness. I have read them with interest.
Hi.

I have a couple of friends with severe depression. The email I sent you the other day has more details, but I do not feel like putting those details in public.

Hi,

My name is Susan. My husband, years ago was diagnosed with a Depressive Disorder. His symptoms caused him so much pain and was also very painful for me and our two beautiful daughters.

Our struggle found me seeking answers. I did self study and later formal education. I am now licensed as an LCSW and have a private practice counseling children and families.

I have a TV with a DVD player in my office area where I share educational material on mental health. Please include me in your drawing for the free DVD.

Thank you.

I am a RN in a VA ACute Psych Unit and my patients would benefit from watching this video. There are so many veterans that suffer from depression and anxiety and they would value these videos greatly. Thanks
