This is a misnomer. A universal healthcare insurance program is NOT government run healthcare. The only thing that happens if we go to such a system is that the government pays the bills via our collectively paid taxes.

If we implemented the same kind of health provider/government pays system like they have in Canada, France, Germany, and Denmark (and others)... not only would the America save a shit load of money as a result, but medical mistakes and waste would drop significantly.

The UN Charter on Human Rights, Article 25 states: “everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of oneself and one’s family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care.”So the idea of basic healthcare being a right to all... absolutely!

Your joking, right? So because of a quirk of bad DNA or being unlucky enough to be exposed to radiation or coal dust or perhaps the rescue workers on 9/11 what not, that those unlucky people need not get that care for free? They now need to pay extra out of pockets expenses to be saved for doing the job they worked?

I admit it is tough to want to help those that smoke as a habit, but that is where preventive medicine comes in.

Overcoming anxiety is no small task.
It takes practice and a lot of hard work.

I used to have panic attacks once a week
due to my high anxiety, so I definitely feel
for you. Fortunately, I can do a lot more
for you than empathize.

By utilizing the techiques below, I was slowly
able to gain control over my anxiety and stop
my panic attacks from occuring. If you
exercise these techiques regularly, you too
will see great improvements in anxiety,
tension and stress.

Breathing:

As the anxiety creeps up, begin to count in
your head. Count 1,2,3,4 -- 1,2,3,4 -- 1,2,3,4
pausing on the dashes and so on.

You're not going to actually say or
even think the numbers. You're going
to breath the numbers.

Take a deep breath in through your
nose for the 1 and 2. Then take a
deep breath out through your mouth
for the 3 and 4. Practice this routine
for a few minutes a day until it
becomes an automated exercise for you.

Practicing really helps a lot.
Practice in a controlled environment.
I used to practice before bed. When
panic does hit, this self-defense
mechanism kicks in without effort.

Control Your Thinking:

When you have negative thoughts,
negative things will come into your
life. Conversely when you have positive
thoughts, positive things will come
into your life.

That's because thoughts steer the
direction of your life.

The same holds true in moments of high
anxiety. It's important during these
times to monitor your thoughts and
make sure you force calming ideas
and images into your head.

Nothing is really as bad as it seems and ten
years from now,this particularly stressful
situation won't exist - so control your
thinking to avoid your mind from falling
into a negative thought spiral.

As soon as you have a negative thought,
throw it out of your head and
counterbalance yourself with a
positive or optimistic thought.

This is a hard one, but after
you monitor your thoughts for
a week or two, you begin to think
more positive in general.

These two tactics helped me a lot.

Other helpful ideas are:
- Participat in Therapy
- Talk to someone you trust
- Exercise (cardio works best)
- Yoga
- Stretching
- Reading
- Meditation
- Take a hot shower
- Go for a Walk
- Listen to Music

And with that, it does not matter what you think of me as well. Nor, what you think of NBC, or the show, because it will still help people whether you want it to or not. And it will get viewers for those who have an open mind and are optimistic about what the show can do for teens.

I appreciate what you are attempting to say. However, your argument is lacking. What would you say of a working mother? Is she causing her child irreversible emotional harm on a day-to-day basis? How about the military parent whose child is on a care plan which names a care provider in the event both parents are deployed? I guess those parents are evil as well. After all, they're just leaving their kids for revenue, oh, and a little thing called serving our country. If you watch the show, as opposed to just hearing about it, you will find that the show serves a phenomenal purpose for those of all ages. It most definitely will have a positive impact on many teens and their "hooking up" lifestyles.

Are you kidding me with this??? You took the time out your life to actually post the sponsors of the show so you could boycott a reality television experiment?? Proudly, I was one of the mom's who loaned her baby to this show, and have no regrets about it. My baby was perfectly safe, not harmed, and being watched 24/7 by not only myself but a large number of crew, producers, and NBC psychologists they had on had to make sure each child was not in any serious distress.

Why don't you go back to writing about Wife swap, and get back to the latest episode of "The Hills" and blog about that, since you like to waste time on useless things with this blog. Give me a break....

What is basic healthcare? It is easy to say that infertility treatments are a want, not a need. It is easy to say that you can't force someone to donate a kidney for transplant into someone else; but to use the transplant example, when is a kidney transplant "necessary" or "basic health care"? It is easy (I guess, I'm not a doctor) to say that someone's kidney isn't working and that to avoid dialysis, s/he requires a transplant, but do we offer transplants to all who in that catagory who can round up a donor? Does age become a factor? What about previous failed transplants? Whatbout lifestyle choices (if the patient's lifestyle choices were a major cause for the need for a transplant)Who gets to make the decision?

I'm concerned because it seems that much of the increase in our overall medical cost isn't from more expensive doctor visits for sore throats but rather for expensive treatments that didn't exist or were rare years ago such as NICU bills in the hundreds of thousands for babies who would have died quickly and cheaply--and then more bills to deal with the handicapped conditions some of these kids have throughout life or expensive chemo that adds months to lives of cancer patients or even relatively simple things like feeding tubes that allow life (and long-term expensive medical bills) to those in comas or similar conditons.

This is such a sticky subject. I mean I believe that everyone has a right to live and to get healthcare
that they need in order to live well. Like in life saving situations.

The woman who said she was "entitled" to get infertility treatment. Not only do I disagree with infertility treatments(simply because it is morally wrong),but if we think along that lines then we should pay for someone's plastic surgery because it makes them "happy".

I think the show is a fantastic idea, and will help teenagers. I think finally out of all crap reality television on today, this show could actually HELP people, and teach people something. You should do more research about the show, and find out just what precautions were taken before these babies were "borrowed"--- No parents would just willingly hand over there child for NO money, which I hear is exactly what happened. what a crybaby we have in Bala Cynwyd. He makes an interesting observation, or do you hate all preliminary observations unless approved by you first? Why is it so common to hear about people coming to this country and doing well? Why not question and explore the subject? And your quick cry of racism is so crybaby-typical. Do you think this is an unalienable right, endowed by our Creator - or a right American citizens are given by the Constitution?

Also, what exactly does "prenatal care" entail? Midwife visits, or a full workup by physician including ultrasounds, blood tests, AFP, genetic tests? How about diabetes care? What if the patient is noncompliant?

I think that society has a duty to provide life saving care (which includes prenatal care for the unborn). I can see where providing vaccines is good public policy. But cancer screenings? Treatment for chronic illnesses? That seems more than "basic" to me.

I actually saw the episode you are referring to, and I was disturbed by it as well. The children of the IA family ate raw meat-including chicken and whatever their father brought home. The meat was kept in a glass jar in thr fridge(because plastic is toxic) and it was continually eaten after it had begun to spoil. The children thought that it was normal.
They all got sick when the new mom took them out to dinner for deep fried chicken strips and french fries.
